Impacting Policy

Advocacy is one of the three pillars of our mission.  Advocacy is about standing up, being visible and being heard.  It is about promoting change and not accepting the status quo.  It is about taking a public stand for those causes and issues that matter to you.  Advocacy – in all of its forms -- is one of the most fundamental rights in a democracy and a founding principle of our great nation.  YOU are our most important advocate.

Why is advocacy so important?
Even though lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States and the second leading cause of all deaths – blame, shame and stigma prevent us from being fairly heard.  And when we are not fairly heard, the government – which is the single largest funder of all cancer research – forgets about us.  And so does everyone else. WE ARE CHANGING THIS!  Stand up.  Be visible. Be heard.  For yourself.  For someone you love.  For someone you lost.

Federal Policy

The federal government plays a key role in nearly every aspect of cancer policy – from funding research to determining what cancer screenings and treatments will be covered by Medicare, Medicaid and now, private insurers, through passage of the Affordable Care Act.  Today more than ever, advocacy at the federal level matters.
