Progress in NYC Lawsuit
August 11, 2010 -- Today a New York City judge gave leading health public policy organizations, including Lung Cancer Alliance, the green light to file a brief in support of NYC's new regulations that will require grocery retailers and 7/11-type stores to display prominent warning signs about smoking near tobacco products. Those new "dissuaders" nare being challenged in a lawsuit brought against the city by tobacco manufacturers and grocery store owners who also tried to block anti-smoking groups from entering the legal battle. However, the judge's ruling today will allow the group, led by American Legacy Foundation and Tobacco Free Kids, to proceed together on a brief in support of the regulations which is expected to be filed by the end of next week.
