Washington, DC - August 11, 2011 - Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) joined 22 other organizations in sending a letter to the Quality of Care Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) commenting on the 2011 revisions to the ASCO/ONS Chemotherapy Administration Safety Standards. The revision to the safety standards expands previous recommendations for assessment of psychosocial concerns and calls for documentation of both the assessment regarding psychosocial concerns and need for support as well as the action taken when indicated. The Alliance for Quality Psychosocial Cancer Care is a coalition formed in 2008 to implement key recommendations of the 2007 Institute of Medicine report, Cancer Care for the Whole Patient: Meeting Psychosocial Health Needs.
