Lung Cancer Alliance Staff And Advocates Ring Closing Bell Of New York Stock Exchange

Lung Cancer Awareness Month Highlighted During Broadcast

Washington, DC [Tuesday, November 10, 2009]—Today, Lung Cancer Alliance staff and LCA-NY advocates rang The Closing Bell  for the New York Stock Exchange™ (NYSE).

Five and a half year lung cancer survivor and LCA-NY advocate, Richard Heimler will marked the end of the day’s trading by ringing The Closing Bell.

He was joined by LCA Staffers Sheila Ross and Miguel Velez and lung cancer survivors, advocates and LCA supporters in the televised ceremony.

“As a lung cancer survivor and on behalf of Lung Cancer Alliance and all those impacted by the disease, we are grateful to the New York Stock Exchange™ for this opportunity to get our message out during November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month,” said Heimler.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death nationwide, taking more lives each year than the next four biggest cancers - breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic —combined.  Two out of three people being diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked or had already quit smoking, often decades ago.
