LCA Parnters with WHW Rocks to Promote Lung Cancer Awareness
Washington, DC (March 30, 2010) — Maximum Watts, Incorporated is pleased to announce their new partnership with Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) for the “WHW Rocks Season Finale.” This
red carpet event will be held live, Thursday, April 8, 2010, 8PM
(6:45PM red carpet) at THEARC Theater (1901 Mississippi Ave., S.E.) in
Washington, DC, hosted by on-air personality April Watts (formerly of
Majic 102.3 FM) with nationally syndicated DJ Sixth Sense (Russ Parr
Morning Show and XM/Sirius Radio) spinning music on stage. A panel of
entertainment professionals and celebrities, including Ski Johnson
(Grammy Nominee); Tanya Blount (national recording artist); Lionel
Davis (Richcraft Records); Angel Elliott (BET Personality) and DJ
Alizay will serve as judges and ultimately select the winner. In
addition, WARD 5 Council Member Harry Thomas, Jr. will be present among
the other distinguished guests.
Lung cancer’s impact is felt even more within
the African American community as African American males have a 30%
higher mortality rate than white males. In 2007, April lost her mother
to lung cancer; and exactly 7 months to the day of her mother’s death,
her grandmother also succumbed to lung cancer. As a result, April has
become passionate about both the prevention and eradication of cancer
and refuses to be a third-generation victim.
“We are proud to partner with April and Maximum
Watts, Inc. to raise awareness of lung cancer in the DC Metro Area,”
said Laurie Fenton Ambrose, LCA President & CEO. “This is a
wonderful opportunity to shed light on lung cancer and show how one
woman’s experience with lung cancer can lead to positive change for
many impacted by the disease.”
For 13 weeks, the best and brightest independent
music stars in the DC Metropolitan Area battled on the WHW Rocks
television show for the chance to become “DC’s Favorite Artist”. From
Hip-Hop and Rock to Gospel, Reggae, and Jazz; these artists performed
at the highest level and gave their all. Now, the final four artists,
as voted by the public, have emerged to compete for cash and other
prizes. The competing artists are Flo Anito (folk/pop/jazz), Kyonte
(R&B), Omega Band (Rock Fusion) and Substantial (Hip-Hop).
WHW Rocks television show is currently in
syndication on AMTV 19 in Montgomery County, Maryland, and Comcast 95
and RCN 10 in the District. Tickets for “WHW Rocks Season Finale”
are $10 and can only be purchased in advance. For branding
