Lung Cancer Alliance Announces New Endurance Training Team
Washington, DC [March 5, 2010] -- Lung
Cancer Alliance (LCA) announced the launch of Team Lung Love (TLL), an
endurance sports training program focused exclusively on raising
awareness and support for lung cancer.
Inspired by lung cancer survivors and their families who
run road races on behalf of organizations across the country, LCA
formed Team Lung Love. The first official race with a Team is the Cox
Rhode Races (www.coxrhoderaces.com)
on May 2, 2010 in Providence, Rhode Island. This event features the
Cox Sports Marathon, half marathon and a 5K. Marathoners, novice
runners and walkers of all levels and ages from across New England and
as far away as Texas have already joined the team!
“Team Lung Love has become a rallying point for many
runners across the country,” said Team Coordinator Julia Gaynor who
lost her mother to lung cancer. “When I start to cramp up or don’t
want to finish a run, I think about who I am running for—those living
with lung cancer—and I am motivated to finish strong. I know it is the
same for most of us on the Team.”
Team Lung Love Volunteer Coordinator and
LCA-Massachusetts Co-chair, Diane Legg shares the sentiment. “Since
my lung cancer diagnosis five and a half years ago, I have run in many
races, but this is the most special. My son will be running the half
marathon with me and our family will be on the sidelines cheering us
on. It’s going to be a great day!”
The Cox Rhode Races will be the first of many events
providing an opportunity for survivors and all those touched by the
disease to add their voices to the lung cancer movement while bringing
hope and compassion to millions.
Together we can and will
make a difference -- one mile at a time! There is still time to sign up
for the half marathon. You can also join the Team as a volunteer over
race weekend! To register for the race or to volunteer go to the
official Team Lung Love website: www.teamlunglove.kintera.org.
The Third Annual Cox Rhode
Races will be held Sunday, May 2, 2010 in downtown Providence, RI.
Produced by Eident Sports Marketing (www.eidentsports.com), this unique event features the Cox Sports Marathon, half marathon and 5K. For more information visit: www.coxrhoderaces.com.
