Washington, DC [July 7, 2012]--Lung Cancer Alliance President and CEO Laurie Fenton Ambrose issued the following statement:
It is with a very sad heart that I share the news of the passing of one of Lung Cancer Alliance longest serving and devoted Board Members, Priscilla Dewey Houghton. On behalf of our entire Board, Staff and the lung cancer community, of which Priscilla cared so deeply about, I extend our condolences and deepest sympathy to her husband, The Honorable Amo Houghton, her family and many friends.
Priscilla was one of the most beautiful people to meet – as she always exuded warmth and brightness and possessed an indomitable spirit and grace.
Priscilla was also a dedicated advocate. She was a defender of her fellow lung cancer survivors and all those who have been touched by the disease. Priscilla provided steadfast support, leadership and commitment to our work early on. She never allowed us to believe for a moment that we could not succeed in challenging the long held stigma and blame that have so unfairly surrounded this disease.
She never let us waiver in our efforts to secure greater compassionate and support for anyone touched by lung cancer. Priscilla was a shining star that illuminated our way in an otherwise darkened sky.
We will always be deeply grateful to Priscilla – for her selflessness and for her pioneering work to build the very foundation for which we stand on today.
As we shout from the roof tops, “No One Deserves to Die of Lung Cancer”, Priscilla’s influence and presence will always be a constant -- guiding us -- encouraging us to stay steady and carry on – until we achieve what we know as truth at our core – that those with lung cancer deserve more.
